Canada to Kuala Lumpur: Regional Answer to US Tariffs

King Charles III and Queen Camilla after State                           Opening of Canadian Parliament Canada to Kuala Lumpur: Regional Answer to US Tariffs Deepak Razdan 29 May, 2025 King Charles III on Tuesday told the Canadian Parliament “every time I come to Canada - a little more of Canada seeps into my bloodstream – and from there straight to my heart.” Not surprisingly, therefore, he knew the Canadians’ concerns, and said the system of open global trade that, while not perfect, had helped to deliver prosperity for Canadians for decades was changing. Canada’s relationships with partners were also changing. But there was no cause for undue worry, the King said. The Government is working to strengthen its relationships with reliable trading partners and allies around the world, recognizing that Canada has what the world needs and the values the world respects, he said....

Canada Waits for its Monarch

Canada Waits for its Monarch Deepak Razdan Sunday, 25 May, 2025 As Palestinians go through "the cruellest phase" of the war and EU is threatened with 50 per cent US tariffs, Canada prepares for a momentous event in its history. King Charles III, King of Canada and 13 other Commonwealth Realms, besides the United Kingdom, will be on a two-day visit of Canada on 26 and 27 May. He will be accompanied by the Queen. The King will open the first session of Canada’s 45th Parliament and deliver his speech from the Throne on Tuesday, 27th May. This will be the first time in nearly 50 years that Canada’s Monarch will take part in the State Opening of Canadian Parliament. The occasion is also significant because of recent statements by US President Donald Trump that Canada should join the US as its 51st State for prosperity. Mr Trump’s suggestion caused great resentment in Canada and was a campaign issue during recent federal elections. The King’s visit will highlight Canada’s associati...

The New World: Trade War to Human War

European Political Community in Tirana, Albania on 16 May, 2025.    The New World: Trade War to Human War Deepak Razdan Wednesday, 21 May, 2025 The New World has shifted its focus from trade war to human war, may be for an interregnum. The punishing US import tariffs which upended the world trade system are not forgotten, but are on wait. There is an awakening about human wars that don’t seem to end, and go on and on, despite repeated pleas and pressures. There are also fears of coming wars and preparations are on to face them, should they really come. Nearly every major country is losing patience the way the Russia-Ukraine war continues, unmindful of the vast devastation of life and property it has wreaked on a sizable part of the Earth. The Palestinians are being bombarded by Israel no end, although the small region is fully flattened and the remaining humans there are only scavenging for food in the debris. While efforts are on to resolve the Ukrain...

Zelenskyy unites Continent of Europe

Zelenskyy unites Continent of Europe Deepak Razdan Monday, 19 May, 2025 Forgotten for many years, the Continent of Europe is re-emerging on the world stage. The principal force behind this historic development is none of Europe’s major economic or military powers. Europe is reasserting its identity because of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who is defending his country against Russia for the last three years. The European Continent turned itself into the European Political Community just as the Russia-Ukraine war started. The Community was meant to shape a European answer to the war and make sure that there is stability on the European continent. The Community held its sixth meeting in Albanian Capital Tirana on 16th May. Heads of government and State from 27 European Union (EU) member-nations and 20 non-EU countries including UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Mr Zelenskyy attended it. On 19th May, there was another closing of ranks among the Continental ...

US Moves Ahead, Rest of Globe Waits

US Moves Ahead, Rest of Globe Waits Deepak Razdan Friday, 16 May, 2025 Things are quite normal in the New World, i.e. for its creator, the US, and its major ally, the United Kingdom. The rest of the world is still wondering how soon it will come out of the trade blockade imposed by US tariffs early last month. The Ukraine-Russia war continues in all its fury, despite Europe’s warning of tougher sanctions against Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s offer of direct talks to end the war. For the first time since the beginning of the war in 2022, Ukraine and Russia held official-level talks in Istanbul in Turkiye on Friday, and agreed on exchange of prisoners of war. Simultaneously, European and UK leaders met at Albanian Capital Tirana for the European Political Community Summit and to discuss the Ukraine war. The leaders extended support to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and hailed him as the man for peace. The Ukrainian President had arrived in Ankara in...

US Holding New World Tight

US Holding New World Tight Deepak Razdan Tuesday, 13 May, 2025         The New World that the United States created with its tariffs remains under its full control. It is the US which decides when it’s time for war and when for peace. The tariffs war was unthought of even by the world’s greatest economists. Could import taxes be a means of war, none could imagine. Such taxes were considered routine and each country believed it was a personal affair. US President Donald Trump was inventing a new weapon. He expressed himself through tariffs. The US was being robbed of its wealth in world trade. Only tariffs could make America Great again. He announced a new tariff line. In 24 hours the world had transformed into a New World. None could figure out how to come out of this puzzle. Mr Trump knew what he was doing. As the creator of the New World, Trump was at the centre of the New World and held it tight, quite unlike the early twentieth centur...

Meeting Challenges of Trade, War and Peace

Meeting Challenges of Trade, War and Peace Deepak Razdan Saturday, 10 May, 2025 Uncertainty in world markets should end soon! The US-UK tariffs deal on Thursday and US-China talks on tariffs later indicate the New World is moving out of its phase of uncertainty on international trade, although trade may not be the only challenge it faces for peace and order. The world trading system will be inching back towards certainty with each trade agreement concluded between the US and its trading partners, and between those trading partners themselves. Globalisation was over the day US President Donald Trump announced punitive trade tariffs for the world on 2nd April. Trading was now to be on bilateral terms only, and the first such deal between two major trading nations, the US and the UK, has been signed. India and the UK, the fifth and the sixth largest economies of the world, signed their Free Trade Agreement on 6th May. India is holding talks with US officials to finalis...
