India & The New World

The New World: India Waits for Space Deepak Razdan 30 March, 2025 " The US, Canada and Europe have been favourite destinations for Indians for trade, tourism, education and emigration. The US is currently cleansing its society of illegal immigrants in all parts of the country, and Indians touring the US for any reason run the risk of getting clubbed with them because of their appearance, and face rough police action. Canada is currently in a state of great insecurity. The US has given it economic insecurity by imposing high tariffs on its goods. The Canadian industry is suffering and job-losses are imminent. Canadians fear for their loss of sovereignty also as US President Donald Trump threatened to make Canada the 51st State of the US. Canada will welcome any tourists, trade visits by foreigners and even students because they bring money to the country. But right now the Canadians are concentrating on their defence and on expanding their security forces, should their ...

The New World -- the Indian Response Deepak Razdan 25 March, 2025 Indian diplomacy and India’s trade expertise will be on a test from 2nd April, 2025 when President Donald Trump announces a new series of reciprocal trade tariffs in which India is likely to be included. Some of the tariffs announced by the US Administration, like on steel and aluminium imports, have already taken effect. Since the inauguration of his second term of the US Presidency on 20th January, Mr Trump announced several changes in the US defence, trade and immigration policies. These created widespread scare in Canada and European countries, as also in South America and Asia, although Mr Trump had never hidden from the world his America First agenda. Canada and the European countries are in a state of shock. Canada is going for federal polls on 28th April. The northern neighbour of the US had always felt comfortable with US’ friendly policies on trade and security. The situation changed sudde...

The World After 4th March, 2025 – India Without Worries 20 March, 2025 Deepak Razdan President Donald Trump’s “trade war” against the whole world has thrown major economies into a spin. From Japan to Canada, the Europe and the United Kingdom, every developed nation today knows its days of economic comfort are uncertain. Stock markets show indices with negative signs, while leaders assure citizens of their countries they are working to meet challenges of trade and commerce, as also defence and security due to the Ukraine-Russia war. The world is estimating how far Mr Trump’s unilateral announcements will impact growth and inflation. India has so far escaped much of those worries. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was talking to US and European leaders around the days and weeks when the US President was unfolding his world agenda. Mr Trump assumed office on 20th January, 2025 and gave a long address before the Joint Session of the US Congress on 4th March, 2025. In the i...

India & The New World

The World After 4th March, 2025 -- Opportunities and Challenges-II 17 March, 2025 Deepak Razdan The World continues to evolve, acquiring each day new features, ever since Mr Donald Trump assumed office for his second term as US President. The United States was the unquestioned leader of democratic nations, pursuing largely a free capitalist system of economy. It was one large family, the largest among different groups of nations, the others led by Russia and China. Mr Trump’s tariff impositions on countries across the globe have broken up the world-family in single nations and small nation-groups. The US is today a family by itself. Its northern neighbour Canada is another, proclaiming the slogan of Canada First like the America First of the US. Europe too comprises a group of nations, in spite of the reality of the European Union. Not just France and Germany, each member of the EU is today is worried about its defence. The EU countries are debating how to strengthen their econ...

India & The New World

The World After 4th March, 2025 -- Opportunities and Challenges Deepak Razdan 8 March, 2025 President Donald Trump’s Address to a Joint Session of the US Congress on 4th March, 2025 transformed the whole world. He had already made announcements regarding the end of US financial aid and military security cover for nations across continents. His speech in the Congress made big and powerful countries deciphering again who their friends or foes were. They found the world had suddenly changed. It was a New World they were part of now. Like most countries, India and Indians have to evaluate what challenges and opportunities the new situation has offered to them. Going by President Trump’s announcements, certainly, rich Indians can explore the option of migrating to the US on Gold Card, petroleum engineers can find jobs in the US oil and gas industry, just as skilled auto sector manpower, power technicians, semiconductor and shipbuilding work force can look for opportunities in the ...
